Traditional Day of the Dead Festival in Tuxpan: A Celebration of Culture and Tradition

The Municipal Culture Directorate prepares for a vibrant Day of the Dead Festival, and Santiago de la Peña joins the festivities with a Catrina and Catrín Parade.

The Municipal Culture Directorate is in full swing preparing for the traditional Day of the Dead Festival scheduled to take place from October 30th to November 2nd. They have also issued a call for Malinches and Tuxpan Dances to participate in this event.

The director of the Directorate, Israel Luna Osorio, has announced that the festivities will kick off on October 30th at 6:00 PM with the Day of the Dead Parade, commencing from Tenechaco Bridge to the Municipal Presidency. At 8:00 PM, a Day of the Dead Festival will be held at the civic square.

On October 31st at 12:00 PM, the first offering to the municipal altar, located at the lower part of the Municipal Palace, will take place. Subsequently, at 5:00 PM, the Altar Contest will be held, followed by the Malinches Contest at 8:00 PM.

On November 1st at 8:00 PM, the Day of the Dead and Xantolo Festival will be celebrated at the civic square. The festivities will draw to a close on November 2nd at 11:00 AM with activities at the Jardín Cemetery. The event will culminate at 8:00 PM with the Catrinas Contest and awards ceremony at the Municipal Presidency’s esplanade.

This program encompasses a wide variety of activities, all while highlighting the traditions of Tuxpan, Mexico, and the Huasteca Veracruzana.

For registration in the Malinches and Tuxpan Dances contests, interested parties can visit the offices of the Culture Directorate located at the lower part of the Municipal Library, opposite Reforma Park.

This year’s rewards for winners will be distributed as follows: In the adult category, the first-place winner will receive 10,000 pesos, the second-place winner 8,000 pesos, and the third-place winner 5,000 pesos. In the children’s category, the first-place winner will receive 3,000 pesos, the second-place winner 2,000 pesos, and the third-place winner 1,000 pesos.

In addition, the community of Santiago de la Peña is gearing up for a Catrina and Catrín Parade. This colorful event is open to both participants and the general public.

The parade is scheduled for the upcoming Sunday, October 29th, commencing at 6:00 PM from the Manlio Fabio Altamirano colony turnaround. The route will traverse the main avenue of the locality, concluding at the park with a popular fair.

Importantly, participation in this parade is entirely free of charge; there is no registration fee. Furthermore, businesses interested in participating as sponsors are also invited to contribute, further enhancing the festivities.
